We currently have an exciting full time permanent opportunity for an Industrial Control System Manager to join our high performing team in Melbourne.

The Industrial Control Systems Team at Metro Trains Melbourne is responsible for the ongoing management and maintenance of various industrial control systems that support the high availability rail network.  Supported systems include: SCADA, Control and Management Systems, network and communications interfaces.

The team also supports major project delivery through system design, integration and commissioning.



  • Ensure the successful delivery of MTM’s Annual Works Plan, including operational system support
  • Provide oversight, assistance and governance during planning, design and systems integration phases of major infrastructure programs such as Level crossing removals, Metro Tunnel project, Melbourne Airport Rail link
  • Provide leadership and direction to a multi-disciplined team, responsible for maintaining high availability safety and business critical industrial control systems. Eg PLC’s, SCADA platforms and interfaces
  • Collaborate closely with various technical / electrical maintenance and operations teams outside of OCMS to support major systems and capabilities;
  • Actively participate in workshops, planning, design and integration activities to ensure compliance with MTM standards and broader technology strategies.
  • Identify, minimise and manage exposure to any risk associated with supported Industrial Control Systems, ensure effective controls are implemented;
  • Ensure all engineering documentation is maintained in a timely manner and to the required standard, and all maintenance and training documentation and material is current and relevant
  • Manage the BAU administrative requirements of the role including time sheeting, basic budget management and spend forecast



  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Systems,) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Minimum ten years of Systems Engineering or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a high performing team, supporting critical infrastructure or large utilities
  • Ability to develop or contribute to detailed design packages for construction.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
