Position Overview

Join MTM as a Project Engineer, taking on the responsibility of developing and assuring all technical aspects related to assigned rolling stock projects including mechanical, electrical and software disciplines.  You will effectively manage system development, design, installation and test culminating in system ready for rollout.

  • Providing Engineering due diligence, lead technical investigations and trials and develop solutions to technical issues (working across the business and with suppliers);
  • Carrying out Engineering Design and Integration activities including;
  • Design review, Engineering Change, Technical drawing reviews, Design verification  & validation against specifications, oversee type and routine tests, Lead product/process quality audits, Act as the interface between the project and Metro’s Office of the Chief Engineer to successfully receive engineering change approval of the system.

Key Responsibilities

Defining scope of works and technical specifications, enabling system integration into existing rolling stock across electrical, mechanical and software interfaces;

  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and briefings to internal and external stakeholders and industry forums.
  • Review and approve design, installation and test records related to mechanical, electrical and software design elements including supervise first of type installation and type test activities.
  • Sustain key stakeholder communication throughout the duration of each project both internal & external.  
  • Guiding and directing suppliers to ensure technical compliance to system requirements; Lead type and routine test activities, First Article Inspections, quality inspections and technical investigations to ensure systems compliance to specifications is achieved with high reliability and quality of service.

Core Capabilities

  • Various use in Microsoft software packages including advanced Excel and MS Project.
  • Experience in root cause analysis; and an ability to carefully, systematically resolve problems.
  • Complex Systems Engineering Experience, preferably in Passenger Rolling Stock 
  • Project delivery experience strongly desirable, particularly risk and issue control.
  • Experience with design review, management of change, Engineering Change and type approval processes. 


  • Degree or relevant tertiary qualification in Electronic / Electrical / Systems Engineering 
  • Experience with Australian/International design standards, verification and validation processes
