The role

 

Please note: This role is a 12 month contract based in our Docklands office. 

 

Metro’s Infrastructure team maintains our railway. From structures, signals, electrical assets, facilities and more, our team work 24/7 to maintain our network and ensure a safe, reliable and sustainable journey for our passengers. To keep this momentum going, we are seeking a talented People Business Partner with significant experience as an HR generalist in a unionised environment. You will help us with doing 'all things HR' and more such as collaborating closely with the Infrastructure department to drive people-related strategies, foster a positive workplace culture, deliver cyclical people processes and ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations. 

 

What you'll do

 

You’ll be wearing multiple hats in this role - challenging yet exciting! 

 

  • HR Strategy: Contribute to HR strategies aligned with business objectives, including employee engagement and culture initiatives. Identify and lead process improvement initiatives.  

  • Employee Relations: Serve as the primary contact for employee relations matters. Provide guidance to managers, ensuring fair policy and enterprise agreement application. Collaborate with managers and union representatives to foster positive labour relations. 

  • Talent Management: Partner with leaders to develop our people and support succession planning. Ensure efficient hiring processes aligned with departmental needs.  

  • Performance Management: Implement processes to enhance productivity providing coaching and supporting managers with performance matters.  

  • Compliance: Stay updated on employment laws and regulations.

 

What we are looking for

 

  • Bachelor's degree qualified in Human Resources, Business, or a related field. 

  • Extensive experience as a HR generalist in a unionised operational environment, preferably in the rail, transportation or manufacturing sector. 

  • Strong understanding of employment laws, regulations and enterprise agreements 

  • Proven experience in employee relations, talent management, and performance management. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive productive relationships with stakeholders 

  • Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritise to best effect.
  • Genuine interest to grow in the role and learn about the rail industry.
  • And mostly importantly, have fun while doing that!
