About the role

 

Metro is looking for an experienced Track Maintenance Labourer (Way Maintainer) to undertake corrective, preventative maintenance, and renewals activities of track assets. You’ll need to have track experience and thrive working in a team environment, using your written and oral communication skills to help produce exceptional quality work in line with standards set by Metro. 

 

You’ll be labouring, installing, and maintaining works on track, working safely and efficiently to meet deadlines. To be successful in this role you’ll have an interest in, and be familiar with mechanical systems, and have a flair for finding solutions that improve processes and increase productivity.

 

You must be able to undertake work shift duties, on a 24 hour 7 day a week roster, and work reasonable overtime as required, responding to after hour's emergencies.  This position will be based in Caulfield.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Undertake maintenance and installation work to ensure the timely completion of construction, maintenance, renewal, or upgrades of track assets.
  • Complete labouring tasks using hand tools and mechanical tools
  • Carry out regular checks as per plant maintenance schedules, maintaining the workplace, yards, and any tools/equipment used.
  • Actively participate in on-job instruction, pre and post-work meetings, as well as contributing to toolbox and visualisation meetings.
  • Ensure works performed meet the quality standards prescribed by Metro Trains, accurately reporting on works completed daily.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the OH&S Standards and Regulations, as well as Metro Trains’ policies and procedures.
  • Coach junior members of the team.

 

About you

 

For this role, you will have the following skillset:

 

Mandatory

  • Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure (Rail Maintenance)
  • Train Track Safety Awareness certified (or must be willing to obtain and practice)
  • Minimum 1 year of track work experience in the rail industry.
  • Sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail and maintenance industry, OHS Act, Codes of Practice, regulations, safe working practices, and HV Rules.

 

Preferred

  • TLIF2082 Perform Hand signaller duties (or must be willing to obtain and practice.
  • Welding experience with tickets or operation of mobile/mechanised plant.
  • Track Force Protection Coordinator
  • Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s license
  • First Aid Certificate Level 2
  • Licence to operate at least one of the following:
    • Loader
    • Excavator
    • Hi-Rail vehicle
  • Rail Infrastructure (Rail Maintenance) Certificate III specialising in either of the following: aluminothermic welding, flash butt welding, track inspection.
