A new opportunity for a Senior Performance Engineer (Structural – X’Trapolis & Siemens) has opened for our Rolling Stock team. You’ll provide specialist technical engineering services and leadership across mechanical and structural matters relating to the X’Trapolis & Siemens fleets on the metro network, including current and future projects work.

 

Drawing on your experience in reliability engineering and rolling stock, you’ll lead efforts to identify trends, root causes to faults and develop maintenance plans to mitigate potential future failures. This may also the provision of advice around rolling stock design, maintenance, operations and ongoing management.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility 

  • Provide technical oversight of the development of rolling stock reliability growth programs to ensure franchise performance requirements are met.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice regarding rolling stock design, maintenance and operation to Management.
  • Lead investigations and resolution of structural issues associated with the trains.
  • Support maintenance, fault finding and development of Reliability Growth Projects.
  • Ensure all proposals for engineering changes comply with relevant technical standards and meet the essential requirements of railway safety and interoperability.
  • Lead the development and authoring of all required engineering documents including engineering change documentation, waivers, cost/benefit assessments, overhaul/repair specifications, scopes of works documents, work method statements, risk assessments, training documentation, work/maintenance instructions and technical maintenance plans.
  • Lead First Article Inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing activities of modifications and/or new processes to establish their suitability for use.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, statutory obligations, regulations, MTM policies and standards and the Asset Management Plan.
  • Inspect, measure, test, record and interpret data relating to assigned Fleet systems for the purposes of fault finding, incident investigation, condition assessment and reliability analysis.
  • Actively monitor the Fleet Maintenance Protocol (FMP) for potential repeat and critical faults, escalating as re          quired
  • Ongoing monitoring of stock movements to identify new and emerging reliability trends, and take action as required to pre-empt component supply issues.
  • Critically review, evaluate and challenge supplier repair work orders, variations and non-conformance reports.
  • Provide technical advice on Rolling Stock mechanical systems (including structural) to other senior managers/divisions and external parties.
  • Lead project delivery to ensure their completion on time, within budget and conforming to applicable safety, reliability and quality standards, with all project risks mitigated to minimise their effect on train operations. Including scope, planning, costing, design, implementation, testing, commissioning and contract management.
  • Identify and resolve process and operational issues with relevant stakeholders to ensure project Integration can be accomplished to agreed performance characteristics.
  • Liaise and foster strong relationships/partnerships with key stakeholders, such as Depart of Transport or client representatives.

 

 

About You 

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Structural engineering or equivalent discipline essential.
  • 7+ years of experience in rolling stock mechanical and structural systems in a design, construction or maintenance environment.
  • Proven experience in an urban passenger railway environment.
  • Strong communicator with experience leading and mentoring a team
  • Engineering registration - Victoria
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, specifications and plans.
