Substation Electrician - Night Shift

The role:

MTM Substation Electricians work in teams of 3 and undertake corrective, preventative maintenance and renewals activities of electrical network assets on the Network. 

These permanent, full time positions work on a night shift roster of 7 on 3 off & 7 on 4 off 0630 - 1430 & 1400 - 2200.

Ideally, you will join Metro with existing experience in substation maintenance and/or substation construction and a Certificate IV in ESI – Power Systems Substations.

Main duties:

  • Perform work associated with the construction, inspections, maintenance, renewal or upgrade of substation electrical network assets
  • Perform HV operations and switching and issue permits
  • Attend to electrical network faults, diagnose root cause and implement fixes as quickly as possible
  • Accurately report all information regarding electrical network faults
  • Perform root cause analysis and 5-WHY’s analysis on faults as instructed
  • Respond to work requests from Electrol to manage non-conformities that have been identified
  • Undertake manual handling and small plant operation and maintenance
  • Perform Track Force Protection Coordinator safe working duties
  • Maintain workplace, yards and any tools/equipment being used
  • Operate vehicles and specialised mobile plant
  • Ensure maintenance and safety of mobile plant and vehicles and carry out regular checks as per plant maintenance schedules

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualified Licensed Electrician “A Class”  - mandatory
  • Train Track Safety Awareness Certificate – desirable
  • Track Force Protection Coordinator – desirable
  • HV Operator S1, I1, T1, O1 - desirable
  • Certificate IV in ESI –Power Systems Substations  - desirable
  • 5 years electrical network work experience – desirable
  • Experience in Substation Maintenance and/or Substation Construction - desirable
  • Interested in and familiar with electrical and mechanical systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail and maintenance industry, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Codes of Practice, regulations, safe working practices and High Voltage Rules
  • Ability to undertake flexible shift work  duties, including permanent night shift and work reasonable overtime as required and respond to after hour's emergencies
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical substation materials and equipment
