About the Role
We are seeking a qualified Substation Electrician to undertake corrective, preventative maintenance and renewal works across the electrical substation network. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, reliable operation of electrical network assets, with all work undertaken in accordance with relevant standards, safety requirements, and Metro Trains policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out construction, inspection, maintenance, renewal, and upgrade works on substation electrical network assets.
- Perform high-voltage operations and switching activities, including issuing permits.
- Respond to and rectify electrical network faults, completing root cause analysis and timely repairs.
- Accurately record and report faults, defects, and completed works in line with reporting requirements.
- Operate vehicles, specialised mobile plant, small plant, and elevated work platforms, ensuring equipment is maintained and safe to use.
- Conduct supporting activities to other Infra, Project and 3rd parties as a Substation Safety Observer
- Undertake Track Force Protection Coordinator (TFPC) safe working duties and maintain safe worksites at all times.
- Support efficient delivery of works through planning activities, site housekeeping, and adherence to OH&S standards and procedures.
About You
- Licensed A‑Grade Electrician with demonstrated electrical network and substation experience.
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage rules, rail safety requirements, and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Qualified in elevated work platforms, First Aid and CPR, and safe work practices in construction.
- Hold a Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence and current TTSA Level 1 certification.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Flexible to work shift-based rosters, including nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
