About the Role


The Construction Defect Assessment Technician is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to ensure the successful handover and acceptance of civil infrastructure assets delivered through major projects, including the Level Crossing Removal Project, Metro Tunnel Project, Franchisee Projects and any internal projects.


You will be the main point of contact between the Facilities and Projects teams, overseeing the identification, management, and resolution of all defects, outstanding issues, and handover requirements in accordance with maintenance and operational standards. Additionally, you will ensure that assets are integrated into Metro’s ongoing operations in a safe, compliant, and sustainable way, supporting the long-term integrity of the network.


This is a permanent position with hybrid working, based in West Melbourne and working on-site across the Melbourne Metro Network. 


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Review and approve Form 24s (Handover of Completed Project to Asset Maintainer Forms) and Certificate 36s (Operational Completion Certificates).
  • Provide recommendations for the approval of Certificate 34s (Project Completion Certificates) and Certificate 35s (Final Operational Certificates).
  • Review, assess, and approve Notices and Approvals for Excavation (NAEs) related to civil works within the Metro network.
  • Prepare and maintain the Scope of Works for End of Defects Liability Period Inspections for civil infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and oversee the execution of End of Defects Liability Period Inspections, interfacing with Projects and external contractors.
  • Provide technical advice on infrastructure inspection, maintenance, construction, and upgrades.
  • Monitor work quality, investigate asset failures, and manage corrective actions and reporting.
  • Identify and assess risks, support maintenance approvals, and ensure compliance with Metro's standards.

 

About you

 

  • Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) or equivalent
  • Significant experience working in a similar civil infrastructure position within rail or major infrastructure sectors
  • Considerable practical experience in the field, including supervised work
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, Building Code of Australia and ability to interpret engineering documents
  • Proven ability to assess technical risks, ensure compliance, and deliver quality outcomes
  • Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • A valid and current full Victorian Drivers Licence
