About the role

 

Ready to take the next step in your career?  We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join our team at the Epping Depot. In this key leadership role, you’ll coordinate maintenance activities to improve service reliability, asset availability, and operational efficiency. You’ll lead a team, manage both preventive and reactive maintenance, and ensure all work meets safety and performance standards—while driving continuous improvement and supporting Metro Trains Melbourne’s mission of delivering safe, reliable rail services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance staff, conduct performance reviews, and support development plans
  • Manage behavioural and performance issues in line with company policies
  • Ensure staff are trained, qualified, and competent to perform duties
  • Coordinate train movements and respond to incidents including derailments, accidents, and other disruptions
  • Lead a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Maintain workforce planning, rosters, and leave records to meet operational needs
  • Receive and allocate train defect repairs, ensuring timely resolution and return to service
  • Train and support Team Leaders in Coordinator duties and SIMS processes
  • Conduct competency assessments following training and certification

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, IT, or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a maintenance environment
  • Strong planning, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to manage staff performance and behaviour
  • Extensive experience with asset management systems, including works management, inventory, and financials
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams to achieve business outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences
