The Senior Commercial Analyst will support the Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) in managing its multimillion-dollar budget, helping to deliver essential services that keep Melbourne’s rail network running and support the city’s Big Build. This includes financial and resource forecasting across key areas such as signalling, electrical works, vehicle and equipment management, safe network access, and operational training.

 

You’ll work closely with project teams, finance, and workforce planning to deliver insights that enable smart decision-making and long-term planning. This is a permanent role based in Docklands, with a hybrid arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Analyse and forecast budgets, track project finances, support workforce planning, and provide actionable insights.
  • Gather and document requirements, map processes, identify improvements, and support business case development.
  • Collaborate with ISG, finance, HR, and project teams to align forecasting with operational needs and build strong relationships.
  • Design and improve reporting tools, develop financial models and templates, and maintain key project documentation.
  • Assist in delivering process changes, run workshops, and support testing and communication for new tools or systems.
  • Enhance analytical tools, share expertise, and support capability building within the ISG team.


About you

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent experience as a Business Analyst.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex financial and resourcing data for analysis and forecasting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, financial modelling, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong ability to engage stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Experience documenting business processes, gathering requirements, and producing quality reports and recommendations.
  • Background in project-based or infrastructure delivery settings, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
