The role:

The Asset Manager is responsible coordinating the compilation of the Structures Annual Infrastructure Works Plan (AIWP) for delivery to enable the management of operational and safety risks. The role is responsible for providing an overarching management control and strategic ongoing analysis of Asset Class Strategies (ACS) and the associated strategic alignment for the designated asset class in accordance with the Asset Management Excellence Framework and Objectives in conjunction with contractual obligations.

Reporting to the Structures Manager and working with the Infrastructure Delivery and Engineering teams with a variety of stakeholders throughout the business, you will be required to provide subject matter expertise on the content and connectivity of the ACS’ into the wider Strategic Asset Management community and beyond. Including demonstrating a strategic continuous improvement to allow safe operation of the assets, and minimising infrastructure vulnerabilities by assessing and managing risk. This position will positively contribute to improving MTMs Asset Management Excellence transformation, by providing a focus on integrating the assets into a strategic Asset Lifecycle approach.

Key duties:

  • Coordinate the compilation of the AIWP through the use of subject matter expertise of this discipline.
  • Ensure the Structures AIWP and ACS manages the operational and safety risks in conjunction with contractual obligations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to develop the relevant ACS and associated content.
  • Responsible for discipline risk mitigation for each sub asset class, manage and maintain risk registers
  • Develop a robust risk review process within the Asset Class and embed learning to improve asset performance and optimisation through continuous improvement and risk reduction.
  • Liaise with the Structures Manager and with Performance and Governance/ Finance to ensure robust mechanisms and lines of communication exist relating to Lifecycle Asset Management and AIWP.
  • Produce business cases and strategic planning documents to enable continuous development of enhanced Lifecycle Cost models in the Asset Class to support strategic risk reduction, operational planning and forecasting in conjunction with contractual obligations.
  • Monitor, report and assess performance of the asset base to identify performance trends and implement solutions for continuous improvement via the ACS’s and AIWP.
  • Actively seek and manage stakeholder expectations to ensure that the asset class and associated strategic content is effectively being monitored and controlled, whilst identifying opportunities for the business improvements.
  • Liaise with stakeholders within the Strategic Asset Management group to incorporate the latest data pertaining to reliability, availability, maintainability and supportability/safety.
  • Work with the other parts of the business to raise awareness of whole of life asset management.
  • Understanding of ISO 55000 and AMEX deliverables and the ability to interpret into relevant actions.

Education, skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Sciences or Business management desirable
  • Minimum 15+ years’ experience in Asset Management activities or managing structural assets, ideally in a rail, transport or safety critical organisation or maintenance environment
  • Good understanding of the principles associated with Risk management ISO 31000
  • Highly skilled in the collection, analysis and written presentation of complex asset information. With effective influencing, persuading and negotiation skills
  • Strong knowledge base of the Structures discipline with experience in engineering/process concepts
  • Experience in asset management systems and/or the management of physical assets
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and risk software
  • Drive and passion to create and maintain methodical and efficient processes and deliver accurate business information
  • Autonomous, inclusive and focussed working style with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders
