About the Role


Join a small, high-performing team delivering  BI solutions across Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM).


Reporting to the Data Platforms Manager, the Business Intelligence Lead will provide technical leadership across MTM's Business Intelligence environment, supporting a mature and evolving analytics platform that enables data driven decision making across the organisation.


This is a hands on role suited to a senior BI professional who can confidently take ownership of solutions from design through to delivery, while providing guidance on best practice, architecture, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:


•    Design, develop, and deliver enterprise Business Intelligence solutions. 
•    Provide BI architecture, design leadership, and technical guidance. 
•    Ensure adherence to Information Management standards and BI best practices. 
•    Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable analytics solutions. 
•     Support the ongoing development of MTM's BI capability through innovation and continuous improvement. 
•    Contribute to the effective management and optimisation of BI platforms and data solutions.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

•    Strong expertise in data modelling and dimensional modelling.
•    Proven experience in data warehousing, including data modelling, ETL/ELT design, and implementation.
•    Extensive experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise Business Intelligence solutions within large-scale IT environments.
•    Strong expertise in data architecture, including end-to-end data delivery from source systems to BI platforms using Agile methodologies.
•    Extensive experience with Snowflake, SQL Server, and enterprise data platforms.
•    Strong experience designing and developing Power BI semantic models, reports, and dashboards.
•    Deep understanding of Power BI architecture, administration, APIs, and platform capabilities.
•    Strong knowledge of Data Analysis Expressions (DAX), including performance optimisation and VertiPaq engine internals.
•    Strong proficiency in PowerShell and .NET for automation, administration, and integration.
•    Experience implementing Power BI governance, security, and best practices.
•    Strong understanding of Power BI performance tuning, capacity management, and optimisation.
•    Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable analytics solutions.
