OCS Engineer

The Role: 
Reporting to the Site OCS/ICT Design Manager, the Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the specification, design, development, test and commissioning of OCS/ICT deployments in accordance with the project’s systems engineering processes.  They will contribute to the design and implementation of OCS/ICT systems including

  • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
  • Security & Access Control
  • Passenger Information Displays (PIDS)
  • Public Address / Audio Frequency Induction Loop (PA/AFIL)
  • Customer Help Points (CHP)
  • Intruder Detection Systems
  • Telephony (VOIP) systems
  • Data / LAN systems
  • Lift monitoring 
  • Pump monitoring
  • Communications/power cable pathways
  • Control Rooms
  • Equipment Rooms

 

Responsibilities:

  • Form part of a technical team responsible for the design and technical support of OCS/ICT to achieve project, stakeholder and corporate objectives.
  • Liaise with professional and technical staff to undertake requirements definition, planning, installation and commissioning of OCS/ICT hardware and supporting software. 
  • Undertake integration tasks, data configuration and issue resolution.
  • Gather site data through site inspection and audit processes. 
  • Develop concept and detailed OCS / ICT design packs for site construction.
  • Develop Operational Concept Documents (OCDs), System Definition Documents (SDDs), Scope of Works (SoWs) to support detailed design and installation activities.
  • Adhere to MTM (and any other relevant) OCS Standards and Specifications and assist with their development as required.
  • Participate in risk, safety in design and human factors workshops and design meetings to ensure the identified residual risks of infrastructure and project works are contained by appropriate control measures to reduce the risk to “So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable.”
  • Collaborate with Architects / Project Engineers / Managers to effectively coordinate the preparation of working detail design drawings and computations.
  • Design and prepare installation / certification documentation for fibre, digital communications, cross connects, and cable records.
  • Liaise with and prepare work instructions for CAD Drafters to meet design objectives and deliver project documentation in a timely and efficient manner and ensure technical issues are resolved. 

 

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Building Services, Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Systems) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.
  • Demonstrated design experience within Building Services, Electrical, Telecommunications or Computer Systems disciplines.
  • Experience in a railway system (specifically technology systems) or equivalent industrial operational environment is desirable.
  • At least five years of Systems Engineering or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering technical based solutions and/or project outcomes to a high quality.
  • Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary design team(s) integrating systems / building services with architectural and structural disciplines is preferable.
  • Ability to apply a System Engineering Methodology i.e. System Definition and Operational Concept Document Development.
  • Ability to plan and develop detailed design packages for construction, according to defined standards / specifications.
  • Ability to plan, budget and organise work in an efficient and effective manner. A good knowledge of OH&S, rail safety, quality assurance and environmental management requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
  • Proven ability to mediate, analyse and work under conditions of diversely conflicting requirements.
  • Possess analytical, evaluative and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and direction from the OCS/ICT Design Manager.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to: 
  • articulate clearly, for both technical and business people, what a particular problem is;
  • coordinate the efforts of a number of people, to achieve resolutions to problems; and
  • work as an effective part of a diverse team;
  • Ability to apply risk management processes.
