As part of the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), MTM has multiple opportunities for experienced Commercial Managers to support new and ongoing works as part of Victoria’s Big Build. These roles work closely with senior delivery and leadership teams to provide end-to-end commercial oversight across complex, multi-project environments, ensuring strong management of financial, contractual and reputational risk throughout the project lifecycle.
The roles span both development and delivery phases and may involve establishing new work packages, negotiating and managing Target Outturn Costs, and maintaining continuity of commercial oversight as projects transition through delivery, close-out and defect liability periods. Responsibilities include leading commercial governance and accountability, supporting stakeholder negotiations with program leadership and delivery partners, overseeing residual commercial risk, and leading and developing high-performing commercial teams while driving continuous improvement and strong day-to-day contract management.
Please note these roles are fulltime permanent roles based out at Level Crossing offices across Melbourne CBD, Sunshine and Moorabbin offices. We do offer a hybrid working arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end commercial and contract administration for major infrastructure works, including head contracts, subcontracts and supplier agreements.
- Own project commercial performance through disciplined budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and accurate reporting of cost, revenue, margin, risks and opportunities.
- Negotiate and manage Target Outturn Costs (TOC) and provide high-quality commercial advice to support key delivery and investment decisions.
- Identify, quantify and actively manage commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring strong governance, compliance and value-for-money outcomes.
- Provide commercial leadership across procurement activities, subcontract negotiations and supplier performance management.
- Act as a trusted commercial adviser to senior delivery leaders, building strong relationships with delivery partners, internal stakeholders and government representatives.
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing commercial team, driving continuous improvement, accountability and strong commercial discipline across the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance, Business, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or equivalent.
- Have extensive experience within commercial management across construction or infrastructure projects.
- You’ll have demonstrated experience leading contract administration, budgeting, forecasting and commercial governance for large project packages.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, cost control methodologies and risk management.
- Communicate with influence and negotiation with a range of different stakeholders both internally and externally within a commercial environment
- You’ll have strong people leadership experience to support the development of team members within a complex project environment and a multi-disciplinary environment
