The Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) will require the enhancement of existing systems and the creation of new systems in-line with MTM / PTV strategies.  MTM are required to integrate newly delivered systems into the operational environment along with providing ongoing engineering support post commissioning.

 

With this, we are looking for an astute Communications Project Engineer to join the Rail Systems Alliance work package. The successful candidate will contribute to the specification, development, installation and through life support of OCS/ICT communications arrangements.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical expertise for development and modification of Communication infrastructure 
  • Collaboratively work with Alliance teams to collect and analyse their requirements for Communication Systems
  • Co-ordinate and interpret requirements to determine physical deployment of Communication Systems along the rail corridor
  • Gather site data through site inspection and audit processes or equivalent
  • Analyse the existing rail corridor and undertake gap analysis to identify gaps in the physical deployment of Communication systems
  • Develop requirements for the physical deployment of communication systems and co-ordinate with relevant design teams both internally and externally with other Alliance partners
  • Develop fibre optic cabling design including cable running plans, cable records, specifications, link budgets, core allocations and testing and commissioning requirements
  • Develop new and legacy Communication system design in accordance with RTO standards and requirements
  • Assist in development of Communication System requirements, operational concept documents, specifications, design reports and scope of work documents
  • Develop effective design drawings and documentation for communication systems
  • Develop documentation of high quality within budget and program
  • Assist with the management of interfaces with key RTOs (MTM/VicTrack)
  • Conduct workshops and meetings as required
  • Participate and undertake RTO change management processes, incorporating engineering change, risk management, training and documentation activities
  • Participate in risk, safety in design and human factors workshops and design meetings to ensure the identified residual risks of infrastructure and project works are contained by appropriate control measures to reduce the risk to SFAIRP (So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable)
  • Provide support during construction phase and testing and commissioning activities 
  • Compile asset management data for returned Communication system assets
  • Assist with the development, commissioning, and upkeep of Communication monitoring systems
  • Use analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills in the railway environment
  • Manage risk, particularly modifications to in-service Communication systems

 

About You: 

  • Relevant Engineering Degree (Electronics, Electrical, Communications, Computer Systems)
  • At least five years of Engineering or related experience
  • Experience in a railway system (specifically technology systems) or equivalent industrial operational environment is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking co-ordinated complex designs 
  • Demonstrated experience in extensive fibre deployments
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving success when working as part of multidisciplinary design teams
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking systems engineering tasks
  • Sound analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Sound organisational and work management skills, particularly the ability to meet objectives and produce deliverables within agreed timeframes
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to:
  • articulate issues clearly to both technical and business people
  • coordinate the efforts of multiple resources to achieve resolutions to problems
  • work as an effective part of a diverse team
  • Ability to plan and develop communication systems design and delivery activities
  • Ability to maintain personal effectiveness, team and stakeholder relationships, both under normal circumstances and at time of significant pressure
  • Ability to plan and develop communication designs in accordance with defined standards and specifications
  • Ability to assess and analyse design solution in order to identify potential consequences and implications
  • Ability to manage time between multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow occupational health, safety and environmental procedures in the rail industry
  • Ability to identify and assess functional specifications for compliance
  • Ability to identify customer specifications and requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff, both verbal and written
  • Ability to mediate, analyse and achieve objectives within a conflicting environment
  • Possess analytical, evaluative and decision-making skills
  • Possess OCS/ICT and construction skills commensurate with communication design
  • Commercial/Financial experience and ability to understand the monetary impact of changes to designs and engineering systems
