About the Role
This position sits within Metro Trains Melbourne’s Operational Control Systems (OCS) team, which is essential to maintaining the safety, communication, and reliability of the city’s train network.
The role involves hands-on technical work supporting systems like CCTV, public address, intercoms, tunnel monitoring, and safety communications which are key to delivering a secure and informed experience for passengers.
You will play a vital part in maintaining the network’s infrastructure, from responding to urgent incidents to contributing to major projects like the Metro Tunnel expansion.
It’s a hands-on, impactful position with opportunities to influence the future of rail technology and contribute to the upkeep of systems that make public transport safer and more accessible for all.
We have five permanent full-time positions available based near North Melbourne Station, working across the Melbourne Train Network.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and fault rectification on a range of Operational Control System (OCS) technologies.
- Diagnose and repair system faults, conduct tests and audits, escalate major issues, and manage component-level repairs.
- Document all activities in the asset and fault management systems, including tracking spare parts and maintaining service records.
- Contribute to system reporting, including availability metrics, fault trends, and service restoration performance.
- Support projects and upgrades, including structured cabling, testing repaired devices, and ensuring new works meet MTM and regulatory standards.
About you
- Advanced Diploma or higher qualification in Electronics and Communications Engineering (or equivalent) and a valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Hands-on experience with security, communications, IP CCTV, audio systems, and structured cabling.
- Skilled in using tools and test equipment, reading technical drawings, and troubleshooting IP/networked devices.
- Experience working on field-based systems in critical infrastructure or utilities, with strong problem-solving skills.
