About the role

 

Join our team as an Electrician and be part of an exciting opportunity to work on brand-new, state-of-the-art train stations! This role is essential in ensuring the seamless operation of power systems and Platform Screen Doors to keep trains running smoothly with the new Metro Tunnel assets. You'll play a key role in maintaining these cutting-edge facilities through preventative and reactive maintenance, renewals, installations, and more. This role is based out of Docklands Infrastructure facility and will be nightshift only.

 

 

Key role responsibilities

 

  • Perform reactive and planned maintenance, renewals, and installations on high/low voltage equipment within the Metro network, specifically the new Metro Tunnel including stations, portals and the tunnel itself.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of Power and Platform Screen Door equipment to support quality systems.
  • Conduct fault investigations, testing, and repairs, and install electrical equipment in compliance with Australian Standards.
  • Ensure all work aligns with Occupational Health and Safety Standards, Metro Trains policies, and safety regulations.
  • Identify hazards, implement control measures, and ensure the safety of personnel working near electrical assets.
  • Use mobile and elevated platforms as required for maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with high-risk activities such as working at heights, rail safety, and mobile plant operation.
  • Maintain and repair equipment by dismantling, assembling, cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting components as needed.
  • Ensure material resources are available for safe, efficient, and timely maintenance execution.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Mandatory: Qualified Electrical Tradesperson with a current “A” Class Electrical Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience as an electrician in the construction industry or a similar complex environment.
  • Preferred: Track Safety Awareness (Level 1) certification and Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience within the rail industry or a similar safety-critical environment.
  • Rail safety competency and ability to meet Metro’s Medical Assessment requirements.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence (manual).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and circuitry.
  • Proficient in operating screen-based equipment and associated software.
  • Sound knowledge of OHS&E regulations, Codes of Practice, AS3000:2000, and safe working practices.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and participate in an on-call roster.
  • Flexibility to commence duties from home with a company vehicle when required.
