We are currently looking for Environment & Sustainability Lead will provide advice and support on the implementation of the Environmental Management System, including Metro’s environmental objectives, plans and procedures within the Infrastructure Division.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The role requires a subject matter expert to support to Infrastructure teams on environmental sustainability and heritage requirements including compliance with relevant legislation to support M&R works planning and delivery.
In addition, you will interact with and provide service delivery to the leadership and line management of the infrastructure division. There will necessarily be interface with external agencies relating to the Environmental discipline including regulators, contractors and MTM client stakeholders.
Weekly stakeholder interface in the infrastructure division will include contribution in the Leadership Team meeting and will also interface with internal stakeholders at monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings where Infrastructure Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) will be consulted with Environmental matters that overlap with HSR activities.
- Provide advice on the engagement of technical specialists and permit and approval requirements.
- Manage environmental and heritage consultants, as required.
- Review contractor Environmental Management Plans and other relevant documentation to ensure MTM risks and requirements are managed.
- Provide technical input for risk assessment workshops and incident investigations.
- Maintain divisional environmental management procedures, instructions, registers and other relevant documentation.
- Support Infrastructure teams to comply with MTM’s environmental management procedures including through the development and delivery of training and awareness material and communications.
- Conduct inspections and audits to monitor the implementation and effectiveness of site environmental controls.
- Support the implementation of broader environment and sustainability objectives for the MTM business, as outlined in the Environment Strategy and Environment and Sustainability Management Plan.
- Liaise with local councils, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders.
- Advocate for good environmental practice and continual improvement of environmental performance
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in an environmental management role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven expertise in applying and managing environmental management system documentation in accordance with ISO 14001.
- Experience providing sound technical advice on environmental issues.
- Experience and knowledge of environmental risk assessment and management for rail industry or construction activities.
- Experience in contractor management, particularly with respect to requirements management and assurance.
- Experience developing and implementing environmental monitoring, inspection and audit programs.
- Ability to identify and analyse risks, and make corrective actions
- Ability to implement the practices and procedures
- Strong stakeholder management experience to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Solid report writing, analytical ability Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge and ability and critical thinking with the ability to work autonomously.
