There are currently three Supplier Commercial Specialist positions available, these are just some of our many new roles available at Metro Trains Melbourne. This is an exciting time to make a change and be a part of a new team. 
At its core, the Supplier Commercial Specialist’s role purpose is to support the Supplier Commercial Manager in providing centralised oversight, standardise management of supplier contracts and ensure robust governance.

Functional Responsibilities


This role will require you to Support best practice commercial and relationship management across MTM and in accordance with policy, procedure, framework and guidance documentation.

Ideally you will have the ability to influence strategic direction through cross-divisional forums to enable the delivery of commercial outcomes.


You will also be required to:

  • Support in maintaining oversight, coordinate the operational contract management team across Portfolio, monitor and aggregate performance and act on contract non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Act as the escalation point for unresolved performance risks and issues (including disputes and claim) from the operational level.
  • Responsible to ensure security is up to date and appropriately administered.
  • Review and provide commercial advice on variations for recommendation and approval.
  • Support training and coaching on compliance and contract management in conjunction with Supplier Governance and Compliance team
  • Support to Procurement in the pre-award activities including the tendering and contract negotiations.
  • Assist Procurement with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Category Management strategies and ensure that any proposed contract variations or extensions are communicated in a timely manner and incorporated into the overarching strategy.

Your skills and experience


The successful candidate will be required to build strong and trusted relationships with the business unit contract management team. It will be a critical skill required in order to create, implement and revise contract management plans.


  • Bachelors or master's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, legal or related field.
  • Proven at least 5 years relevant experience in supplier contract and commercial management.
  • Demonstrated financial/ commercial acumen 
  • Strong stakeholder and engagement ability.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex organisational frameworks and policies.
  • Extensive experience in commercial contract management
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislation and ability to provide advice on commercial commitments
