We are seeking a full‑time External Affairs Coordinator on a fixed‑term basis until November 2027.

 

The External Affairs Coordinator supports the delivery of Metro Trains Melbourne’s Community Investment portfolio, including key franchise commitments.

 

The role assists with the coordination of community investment initiatives such as the Community Connectors and Community Grants programs. This includes managing day‑to‑day administrative tasks, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting reporting and evaluation activities aligned to the Community Investment Plan.

 

Through this work, the role contributes to achieving Metro’s community impact objectives and enhancing Metro Trains Melbourne’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, delivery, and administration of community investment, sponsorship, and grant programs.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community organisations, not‑for‑profit partners, and local council representatives.
  • Act as a key point of contact for community investment enquiries and grant applications.
  • Coordinate internal approvals and support compliance with governance, risk, and procurement requirements.
  • Assist with the delivery of community events, activations, and partnership activities aligned to Community Investment initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the External Affairs team, including Government Relations, Media & Content, and First Nations, as well as Communications, Operations, and Passenger teams.
  • Support the development of communication materials, including case studies and content that showcase program outcomes and impact.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and alignment with brand, reputational, and corporate objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records, including agreements, budgets, and program milestones.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other corporate workplace tools, including SharePoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, ESG, stakeholder engagement, and event management.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement when engaging with diverse community, government, and not‑for‑profit stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion in managing sensitive or high‑profile matters.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, with attention to detail across timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
