Due to growth and expansion, we are looking for an Injury & Claims Advisor to provide proactive case management of workers compensation claims, supporting ill and injured employees through early intervention and ongoing engagement. This role will ensure MTM meets injury management compliance requirements and return-to-work obligations by collaborating with relevant stakeholders and supporting injured employees to safely and sustainably remain at or return to work as soon as appropriate.
This role involves managing all aspects of workers' compensation claims, from initial lodgement through to resolution, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and organisational policies, including representing Metro at conciliation conferences.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Develop return-to-work plans in collaboration with injured employees, managers, and healthcare providers, facilitating effective recovery and reintegration into the workplace.
- Provide expert advice to managers, employees, and stakeholders on claims and injury management, and return to-work policies to ensure compliance with the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013
- Act as the primary contact for the WorkSafe Agent, healthcare providers, legal teams, and other external stakeholders to ensure efficient claims management and resolution.
- Track and analyse claims performance, identifying trends, monitoring costs, and providing actionable insights to improve claims management processes.
- Conduct regular case reviews, particularly for complex or high-risk claims, and collaborate with the Injury and Claims Manager and external parties to identify and attempt to resolve any barriers that exist to achieving a full return to pre-injury work.
- Support the Injury and Claims Manager in managing legal aspects of claims, including data collation, and reporting for common law claims and other legal defences.
- Timely notification to payroll of workers’ compensation claims and relevant entitlements and timely management of Insurer reimbursements and under excess payments.
- Notify payroll of workers’ compensation claims, verify PIAWE calculations, and oversee reimbursements and accident compensation payments.
- Handle all employee medical and injury-related information with confidentiality, maintaining a high standard of professionalism in managing sensitive claims.
About You
- Minimum 2 years of experience in workers' compensation management, including
direct involvement in claims management and injury management.
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Rehabilitation, Personal Injury Management, Allied Health, or Mental Health
- Demonstrated ability to remain impartial while managing multiple complex claims independently, ensuring effective return-to work outcomes.
- Detailed knowledge of current WorkCover legislation, particularly in Victoria.
- Knowledge of Health Assessment Standards and regulations would be an advantage
- Experience in the development and continuous improvement of workplace injury and claims management programs within large or complex environment.
- Capability to apply discretion and sound judgment in managing sensitive matters and highly confidential or sensitive information.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills, with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management experience to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in a complex and politically and industrially sensitive environment.
- Solid report writing, analytical ability and critical thinking with the ability to work autonomously.
