About the Role
This role sits within a technical team supporting and enhancing Metro’s Network Infrastructure, while delivering systems engineering across interfacing networks and systems. The team also plays a key role in system integration, implementation, and ongoing support.
You’ll join a collaborative environment with structured onboarding and opportunities to build your technical capability over time. The role will initially focus on operational support, with increasing exposure to project work as experience grows.
This is a full-time, permanent position requiring regular on-site presence and participation in an on-call roster. The successful candidate will bring relevant experience, curiosity and a genuine desire to keep learning and growing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Key responsibilities include delivering operational support, system implementation, and maintenance to ensure MTM’s network environments remain stable, secure, and up to date. This includes responding to incidents and performing routine system health checks.
• Support and enhance MTM’s Enterprise Network Infrastructure and related systems, including systems engineering and integration activities
• Perform network configuration, administration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting, resolving complex technical issues
• Collaborate with technical stakeholders to configure environments and support delivery outcomes
• Support change management, including risk, documentation, and implementation of new technologies, while maintaining asset lifecycle records
• Implement and uphold network security controls and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to team capability through documentation, peer reviews, mentorship, and participation in the on-call roster
About you
• CCNA certification (non-negotiable)
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar
• 2-3 years’ experience as a Network Engineer
• Hands-on experience across network engineering, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting, including security and network appliances (e.g. Cisco, Palo Alto, F5)
• Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g. PRTG, SolarWinds, ManageEngine NetFlow/IPAM) and technologies such as Cisco Catalyst Centre, Nexus Dashboard Fabric Controller, and Zscaler would be desirable.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality technical solutions and documentation, including system setup and configuration
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and business audiences
• Ability to work collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and contribute to team outcomes
• Strong foundation in BGP, QoS, and understanding of cloud networking principles
• Self-driven with the ability to identify issues and independently manage tasks to achieve outcomes
