About the Role

 

At Metro we have an opportunity  in our People Delivery Team that supports Projects Division and Safety & People. There are two People Advisory roles, both providing an important People service to the Level Crossings Removal Program and the Franchise portfolio.  These are fixed term positions until the end of the year and will be reviewed again in December 2025.

 

We are seeking experienced People Advisors to work autonomously as the first point of contact for line managers and employees across a range of people related matters, providing sound people advice, consultation and general support across the designated stakeholder groups.

 

You will be responsible for the delivery of a range of human resource activities across the employee lifecycle.  The roles will partner closely with the Senior People Business Partner to ensure appropriate escalation of employee relation or complex people issues and support the achievement of objectives based on Metros’ People Strategic plan.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support the implementation of the agreed People plan for the area of the assigned business area.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships across designated client groups.
  • Coach and guide managers and employees with the performance management process including performance improvement plans, development and career progression discussions.
  • Consult with managers to understand their People related requirements advice and providing advice playing a major role in work reviews and change processes.
  • Provide advice and assistance on policies, procedures, legislation, and enterprise agreements.
  • Consult on issues and drawing from MTM’s central People function and across People Delivery teams as required (including workplace relations and conducting job evaluations)
  • Provide operational advice, coaching, consultancy and guidance to people across the assigned business area
  • Participate in leadership meetings, workshops and forums as required.
  • Support the business working with Talent to ensure mobility and career development pathways across enterprise.
  • Support People BPs, Talent team members, employees and Leaders on Metro’s Internal mobility and recruitment processes, specifically as they relate to demobilisation and redeployment.
  • Maintain up to date awareness of all relevant employment law, and best practice in org design and business partnering.

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualification in human resource or other relevant discipline with a proven track record for working autonomously  as a point of contact for employees across a wide  range of people related matters
  • Demonstrated experience in a generalist Human Resource role.
  • Awareness and understanding of various legislations relating to employment law, workplace relations legislation, workers compensation, pschosocial safety and positive duties legislation
  • Confidence in explaining complex polices to stakeholders and develops policies based on expert operational knowledge and consultation with interested parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and promote HR practices and adherence to legislative compliance.
  • Ability to schedule work priorities to ensure deadlines are strictly adhered to whilst managing complex situations, having solid problem solving and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally & written will all levels of stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to update reports and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as a team member to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience with implementing organisational changes.
  • Strong written communication skills, with an ability to write general correspondence, policies, procedures, guidelines and reports which are evidence based and provide a sound basis for decision-making. Well-developed interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build rapport, interact effectively at all levels and provide support and advice.
  • Sound knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Software Packages
