About the Role
This is a key leadership opportunity to shape the performance, safety and future of MTM’s Civil/Structural and Facilities asset portfolio. As a Principal Technical Lead, you’ll provide strategic direction, technical expertise and operational oversight across maintenance, renewals, upgrades and construction. You’ll play a critical role in driving engineering excellence, strengthening governance and delivering reliable, high-performing infrastructure that supports Melbourne’s growing rail network.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise across maintenance, renewal, upgrade and construction activities.
- Ensure safe and efficient delivery of works through planning, project management and on-site oversight.
- Assure compliance with Technical Maintenance Plans, engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor work quality, identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Lead continuous improvement of maintenance plans, standards and engineering practices.
- Manage technical risks, investigations and critical engineering decisions impacting asset safety.
- Lead and develop teams while managing contractor performance and stakeholder relationships.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Extensive experience in rail, infrastructure or related engineering environments.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in complex operational settings.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance, renewals, construction and asset management principles.
- Ability to interpret engineering standards, Technical Maintenance Plans and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated capability in managing risks, budgets and resource allocation.
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills with sound technical judgement.
