About the role:

Our Caulfield Track Team is looking for an experienced rail leader, who has a proven track record of management experience in a rail environment.

The Track Maintenance Team Manager is required to build individual and team capability, and drive track maintenance activities.

This Manager will provide leadership, technical and administrative management of track inspection, maintenance, repair and renewal that ensures work is delivered effectively, efficiently and safely at all times.

Key duties:

  • Plan and carry out Track inspections and maintenance to demonstrate compliance with the TMP in a safe effective and a cost efficient manner.
  • Develop a program of fault rectification works based on Track inspections, IEV100 data and IFC  Plan and carry out fault rectification in line with MTM Procedure, Standards & Policies.
  • Develop options/solutions for completing fault rectification safely, within budget and time constraints.
  • Manage all track works considering life cycle of assets.
  • Carry out onsite management activities when & where required.
  • Plan and achieve the necessary approvals including budget, scope (including changes), environmental, and heritage for routine tasks.
  • Develop (as necessary) cost estimates, project schedules and other documentation for the successful delivery of maintenance, repair & renewals works.
  • Apply SME knowledge to help to address basic workplace technical problems.
  • Help to identify innovative engineering solutions to support all maintenance, repair and renewal activities.
  • Manage all required external resources to deliver works, including; Requisition, procurement, cost analysis (in line with budget), performance, quality and safety in accordance with MTM’s contractor management procedures.
  • Prepare detailed work planning, including; Access, Labour & Safeworking resources, Plant, scope, costing and timing that enables delivery of the tasks.
  • Provide accurate, regular, timely reporting to the Track Maintenance Manager.
  • Manage the delivery of Track maintenance to ensure compliance to the approved budget and make the appropriate interventions where necessary.
  • Review transactions (at least monthly) and ensure the correct allocations of all costs and accruals. Manage procurement in accordance with budget and MTM’s procedures, standards and policies.


  • Understanding of Track Maintenance; Plain Line & P&C
  • Planning and management skills including complex sites (i.e. Inner City Melbourne) and managing multiple teams concurrently
  • Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated and sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail industry; OH&S Acts, Procedures, Standards and requirements.
  • Computer literacy; Ability to utilise MS Word, Excel, Projects & Teams, CAMS (Ellipse).
  • Prepare and chair monthly Team Leader meetings

Qualifications and experience:

  • Certificate III (or above) in Rail Infrastructure – Desirable
  • Certificate IV in Front Line Management – Desirable
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment - Desirable
  • Minimum 5 years Track (Maintenance/Renewals) experience - desirable
  • Previous experience as Team Leader or Technical Lead – Desirable
