Project Engineer - Signalling Systems

Position

 

The Project Engineer with be supporting the Signalling Systems Project Manager by undertaking specific elements or work packages undertaken by the State, Metro Trains (as the franchisee) or Third Parties (within the Metro Trains lease), are designed, reviewed and delivered in compliance with the technical standards of Metro Trains and the functional operating requirements of the business.Ensure that where there are multidisciplinary impacts from the project works that the correct internal MTM managers and staff are engaged to complete various systems changes through the staging and until project completion.

Responsibilities

 

  • Support the achievement of Balance Scorecard objectives
  • Adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Assist the Signalling Systems Project Manager with the preparation of scope documentation for specific activities/works and progress the engagement of the contractor/supplier, including tendering, evaluation contract award
  • Undertake the review of Project documentation and designs, submitted by external parties, throughout the project life cycle to ensure compliance with the MTM's technical standards, signalling asset management processes and all applicable laws, regulations, statutory obligations and MTM Trains policy
  • Assist the Signalling Systems Project Manager with the submission of the Project Monthly Report to MTM management
  • Develop reports and associated tools to identify and correct problem areas
  • Identify work practices, methods and activities that can be altered or improved.
  • Lead the detailed planning for specific project activities, as assigned by the Signalling Systems Project Manager
  • Manage all aspects of allocated projects in conjunction with relevant stakeholders and contractors to progress projects to implementation and commissioning

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, Computer Systems) admitting to corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia
  • Experience in railway signalling systems, and delivery in signalling and/or train control projects.
  • Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary team(s) integrating systems
  • Qualified (or willingness to be qualified) in Safe-working systems relevant to the MTM rail network
  • Experience and knowledge of working within a rail environment, following rail procedures and processes is desirable
  • Ability to plan and develop detailed project scope and requirements for construction, according to defined standards / specifications
