The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is a transformational public transport project that will bring more trains to your suburb and reduce travel times by running the busy Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines through a new tunnel. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne.


We’ve finished digging twin 9km tunnels, and construction is underway on 5 new stations and testing of the new High Capacity Signalling system that will enable turn-up-and-go services.
Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Risk Coordinator to join the MTP Team. 

The Role

The Risk Coordinator will support the development and implementation of the Metro Trains Project (MTP) Risk Assurance Program to ensure the integration and acceptance of the MTP system by Metro.

This is a fulltime, permanent role based in Melbourne’s CBD, with flexible working arrangements available. 



  • Support and contribute to the update of the MTP (Program Level) Risk Management Plan.
  • Undertake due diligence reviews as required by the Project Risk Management Plan. 
  • Support and undertake compliance audits with respect to management system plans and procedures.
  • Support the Project portfolio to ensure safety and operational residual risks are identified, accepted, controls implemented and risk transferred through a range of governance and administrative activities including:
    • process audits to verify quality of risk assessment outcomes
    • verification of safety requirements
    • review of risk assessments
    • governance process submissions and assurance artefacts and preparation of briefing papers as required. 
  • Support the development and review of the program level SERQA and program residual risk registers.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience of implementing risk management principles (ISO31000) and designing, implementing and coordinating risk management processes in a technical or regulated operating environment, such as Rail/ Manufacturing/ Aerospace/ Construction/ Mining/ Automotive/ Oil & Gas/ Utilities/ Chemicals/ Defence.
  • A relevant Risk Management and/or System Safety Assurance qualification, highly desirable. 
  • Ability to facilitate risk workshops and manage group consultations 
  • Ability to critically analyse data and write and present reports.
  • Knowledge and experience of System Safety Assurance processes in a construction or engineering setting, highly desirable
