SCADA Technician

The role:

Located in Burnley, the position will assist the Senior Control and Indication Officer in the maintenance (routine and reactive), renewals and additions required on the MTM Network. You will also provide general technical support and participate in developing and implementing proposals for alterations or upgrades of the SCADA system.

To be considered for this role you must have a Certificate of Technology or recognised academic qualification in Electronics/Communications/IT or suitable experience in like disciplines supported by specialised training/bridging courses.

 

Main duties:

  • Undertaking changes and additions to the Train Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System required for new.
  • Assist the Supervisor (Senior Control and Indications Officer) to perform maintenance (reactive and routine) of the SCADA system including operator stations, communications stations, local input output stations, wallboards remote terminal units, in accordance with the Asset Management Plan.
  • Assist the Supervisor to undertake hardware and software changes and installation of new equipment required for additions to or alterations of the electrical network.
  • Prepare reports, written and verbal, and recommendations on all aspects of the SCADA system.
  • Prepare the required Prepare the required picture formats and database configuration to meet the Department's requirements.

Education, skills and experience:

Desirable:

  • Rail safety competency and Medical Assessment for this is in accordance with Metro's Medical Policy.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff of various classifications i.e. professional, supervisor and trade related disciplines. Sound knowledge of all relevant PTC, Austel and Statutory Electricity supply Authorities rules and regulations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Railway SCADA and electrical network system.
  • Technically competent in digital electronics, computer hardware & software and communication systems to effectively maintain and alter the SCADA system.
  • Sound knowledge of the OH&S Act, Codes of Practice, Regulations and Safeworking practices.
  • In order to carry out the complete responsibility of the position, it is a requirement of the incumbent to be available for callouts after hours to cover equipment failure.
  • Experience with control systems and components used for the distribution of power including but not limited to RTU’s and IED’s.
  • Experience with control systems protocols including but not limited to DNP3 and IEC61850.
  • Cert 4 in Telecommunications Network Engineering or relevant technical qualification in Communications.
  • Open Registration Cablers licence with Fibre optic, Coax, and Structured cabling endorsements
  • Good experience and knowledge of IT and OT networking fundamentals and configuration including IPV4/6 Industrial Ethernet communication networks, OSPF, VPN and Security
  • Knowledge and technical skills in Lynix
  • Knowledge and technical skills in programming languages.

Essential:

  • A grade Electrical Licence
  • Cert 4 in a relevant technical qualification in Communications.
