This is a full time permanent opportunity, based at our Kananook depot. 

 

 

 

About the role

 

Join Metro Trains Melbourne as a safety and environment specialist in this newly created, full-time permanent role at our brand-new Kananook maintenance depot. You’ll play a key role in ensuring safety and environmental compliance across our rolling stock operations. Reporting to the quality assurance and safety strategy manager – rolling stock, with a dotted line to the fleet manager, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a safer, more efficient transport network in a dynamic environment.

 

 

Key role responsibilities

 

  • Support line and site management in managing risks and identifying safety improvements.
  • Monitor INX for assigned sites, ensuring actions and investigations are completed on time.
  • Lead and facilitate OH&S investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety and environmental inspections, recording findings in INX.
  • Participate in internal audits for quality, WHS, rail safety, and environment.
  • Plan and conduct OH&S meetings, track actions in INX, and ensure timely completion.
  • Perform daily safety walks and interactions at depots under responsibility.
  • Maintain and update safety documents, risk assessments, and safe work instructions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with WHS plans and strategies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce risks.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Certificate IV or higher in Work Health and Safety.
  • ICAM Investigation qualification.
  • Experience in SEQ, HSEQ, or related roles.
  • Background in rail, transportation, or infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with HSEQ database systems.
  • Internal Audit qualification would be beneficial but not essential.
