About the role  

 

A 2 year fixed-term opportunity primarily based at our EPPING depot.

 

The Safety & Environment Specialist provides Safety, Environment and Quality (SEQ) assistance to MTM’s Rolling Stock Maintenance Facilities and Sidings. The Rolling Stock Safety Environment and Quality (SEQ) Specialist reports to Julie Thomson into the Quality Assurance and Safety Strategy Manager – Rolling Stock and have a dotted line report into the Fleet Manager.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Support site and line management in managing WHS, Environmental, and Rail Safety risks and improvements.
  • Monitor INX to ensure timely completion of actions and investigations.
  • Lead and coordinate safety investigations, inspections, and audits, recording findings in INX.
  • Conduct regular safety walks, meetings, and interactions to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including SDS registers, SWMS, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure safety documents are current and updated with process changes.
  • Assist with WHS plan implementation, hazard identification, and corrective actions.
  • Promote safety awareness and accountability across teams.
  • Attend site meetings and contribute to environmental compliance and continuous improvement efforts. 

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Good knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and low voltage electrical circuits and components.
  • Diesel Mechanic trade qualification or demonstrated trade capability through field experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff (verbal and written).
  • Proficient in using computer-based maintenance and reporting systems.
  • Knowledgeable in rail industry safety and environmental procedures.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
  • Skilled in planning and executing repairs on vehicles, plant, and equipment.
  • Capable of prioritising and scheduling work to meet strict deadlines.
