ABOUT THE ROLE
The Safety Advisor promotes the delivery of the corporate Safety Management System and Improvement Plans by advising teams and operational managers on safety activities.
A key element of this role will be to provide dedicated support and advice to personnel to ensure thorough understanding and consistent implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS), including Metro’s safety objectives, performance targets, policies, and procedures.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity based at 700 – Collins Street.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and review of corporate SMS documentation through consultation with internal and external stakeholders, this may include running workshops, workgroups, change management processes and risk assessments.
- Maintain existing Standards, Procedures, Guidelines and Forms in line with best practice and legislation.
- Develop and implement training, initiatives or programs to promote WHS or as required
- Implement, manage and coordinate safety culture initiatives such as the Pulse Safety Survey
- Provide corporate governance through assurance activities (audits and inspections) across all elements of the SMS.
- Undertake quality assessments and reviews of investigations for corporate reviews monthly and annually in accordance with the SMS.
- Provide advice to the coordinator and provider of the Metro Drug and Alcohol Program and ensure reporting requirements are met.
ABOUT YOU
- Qualified Lead Investigator (ICAM Preferred)
- Qualified Internal Auditor ISO9001:2008
- Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety, Risk Management or Business Management or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act (2004), Regulations, Compliance Codes and Australian Standards
- Knowledge of Rail Safety National Law Act 2012 and Rail Safety National Law Regulations 2012, Dangerous Goods Act (1985)
- Experience in managing psychosocial hazards desirable
- Qualification in or experience with Occupational Hygiene desirable
- Advanced working knowledge of safety (OH&S) management systems
- Certificate IV in Training & development desirable
- Knowledge of Emergency Management Act (1992) desirable
