About the role
The Safety Delivery Manager leads safety programs across the Infrastructure division at Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) to ensure they meet legal requirements and support a Zero Harm culture.
The Infrastructure division has over 1,000 staff working 24/7 to maintain more than 1,000 km of track and 40,000 structures, signals, and systems to keep the railway safe and reliable.
In this role, you'll work closely with leaders, frontline managers, and contractors to improve safety, manage risks, and deliver key safety initiatives across all infrastructure operations.
This is a permanent role based at West Melbourne/Docklands, leading a team of five direct reports and a broader team of ten.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong safety leadership across the Infrastructure division, ensuring safety is part of everyday operations and aligned with MTM’s values.
- Deliver the Safety Strategy through clear annual plans and performance measures, even in a cost-conscious environment.
- Lead and support a team of Safety Professionals, championing collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, sharing insights and influencing positive safety outcomes.
- Oversee safety assurance activities analyse data trends, and provide clear, actionable insights to senior leaders.
- Be a key voice for Infrastructure in committees and working groups, contributing to safety planning and supporting compliance with evolving health and safety regulations including psychological safety.
About You
- Extensive experience in senior safety leadership within rail infrastructure, construction, or heavy industry, with direct responsibility for workforce safety outcomes.
- Successful delivery of safety initiatives and driving innovation and leading change in fast changing and complex environments.
- Skilled at aligning and integrating safety goals with operational efficiency to drive positive results.
- Strong ability to collaborate with, coach, and influence senior leaders and executives.
- Expertise in incident investigation, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
- Strong knowledge in risk assessment and management, including practical application of the So Far As is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP) qualifier and exposure to psychological risk management.
