Our Network Timetabling & Planning department are responsible for the strategic planning for and assurance of future network states (including timetables and infrastructure) and the end-to-end timetable (including the Master Timetable, Special Events and Occupation planning).

About the role
This role is a 19month Full Time Max Term Contract
The Scheduling Officer role is accountable for the research, development and issuing of Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) daily timetable. The role also ensures the incorporation of all alterations to the master timetable to facilitate operational changes such as special events, temporary track closures, rail network access and occupations. More role responsibilities also include:
- Coordinate the scheduling of train services, alternative transport requirements, track access and track machines movements.
- Develop special timetables, often with limited notice, to provide for unexpected events such as industrial disputes, degraded infrastructure, or other events affecting MTM’s rail services.
- Ensure safe and compliant timetable alterations complying with MTM’s franchise obligations.
- Liaise with other Rail Operators regarding the scheduling and approval of altered and additional non-suburban trains through the MTM Network.
- Produce complex timetables and other associated documentation for all service alterations.
- Generate distance access reporting based on other rail operators’ activities within MTM network.
- Transform technical information into useable form including effective use of computer software programs.
- Gain practical understanding and improve quality of timetables by observing key stake holders in the field.
- Identify problems and update tools or methods to improve outcomes, including automating and simplifying processes.
- Support the achievement of Balance Scorecard objectives.
- Make recommendations in respect to work methods and techniques.
About you
Required:
- Engineering, Science, Business Analytics degree or Tertiary qualifications in Transport Planning or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to utilise systems and tools to improve processes and outcomes with sound knowledge and skills of computer-based systems.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain and adapt information to internal and external parties to drive effective outcomes.
- Ability to follow occupational health, safety and environmental procedures in the rail industry.
- Ability to identify and analyse risks to make corrective actions.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated knowledge of fleet and infrastructure maintenance and servicing requirements.
- Experience and knowledge of Safe Working systems.
- Experience and knowledge of the configuration of the Metropolitan trains system, stations, train operations, train fleet and terminal working.
- Thorough knowledge and experience of principles and reading of train timetabling, train graphs, timetable processes and techniques and associated procedures.
