Security Intelligence Analyst

Date: 7 Aug 2026

Location: Melbourne, VIC, AU

Company: metrotrain

Melbourne is Australia’s fastest growing city, and public transport is vital to keeping it moving. Since 2009, Metro has proudly operated and maintained a world-class train service and delivered major transport projects that shape the future of our city. Guided by our value of Safely Always, we are one team dedicated to ensuring everyone gets home safely while helping to connect and create a better Melbourne.

We’re looking for a Security Intelligence Analyst to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis, based at our North Melbourne offices.

About the Role

Reporting to the Security Intelligence Lead, you will support intelligence-led security operations across Metro’s rail network.

You will analyse security incidents, crime and antisocial behaviour, trespass, persons of interest, locations, and emerging risks. Your intelligence will inform operational decisions, deployments, interventions, risk mitigation and executive reporting.

This position focuses on operational and physical security across the rail network. It is not a cyber security or information security role.

What We Offer

  • A unique opportunity to shape intelligence-led security outcomes across a complex and dynamic transport environment.
  • Career development and learning opportunities supported by experienced security and intelligence professionals.
  • Flexible and supportive working arrangements within an organisation committed to safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop timely intelligence products, assessments, and briefings.
  • Analyse security incidents, behaviours, persons of interest, hotspots, and trends.
  • Combine information from security, safety, policing and rail operational sources.
  • Identify emerging risks, vulnerabilities, and intelligence gaps.
  • Translate complex information into clear findings and recommended actions.
  • Support operational tasking, deployment planning, assurance, and executive reporting.
  • Collaborate with Security Operations, Authorised Officers, rail stakeholders and external partners.
  • Maintain high standards of information handling, data quality and governance.
  • Use tools including Power BI to support analysis, reporting and visualisation.

About You

Our ideal candidate will combine intelligence analysis capability with rail operational experience. We also welcome candidates with strong experience in either area and relevant transferable skills.

You will have:

  • Experience in operational intelligence, physical security, law enforcement, public safety, rail or a comparable transport or analytical environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • The ability to identify patterns, risks, and emerging issues from multiple sources.
  • An understanding of operational environments and the ability to translate analysis into practical action.
  • Excellent written communication skills and experience producing concise reports or briefings.
  • Sound judgement when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience using Power BI or similar analytical tools.
  • A relevant qualification in intelligence analysis, criminology, policing, security, risk, emergency management, data analytics or a related discipline is desirable. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.

Desirable

  • Experience within a rail or comparable transport operational environment.
  • Experience producing operational intelligence, threat or risk assessments, tasking products or executive briefings.
  • Knowledge of intelligence analysis techniques.
  • Experience analysing incident, crime, behavioural, location or persons-of-interest information.
  • Understanding of Victoria’s public transport and security environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform or related analytical tools.

Recruitment Process

  • Initial phone screening
  • One or more interviews, which may include behavioural, technical and/or practical assessment components
  • Reference checks and pre-employment screening
  • Employment offer
