The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is a transformational public transport project that will bring more trains to your suburb and reduce travel times by running the busy Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines through a new tunnel. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne.

We’ve finished digging twin 9km tunnels, and construction is underway on 5 new stations and testing of the new High Capacity Signalling system that will enable turn-up-and-go services.

Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join the MTP Team.


The Role

The Senior Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and assistance with the delivery of cyber security implementation and assessment activities across all Rail Network Alliance (RNA) system delivery scope.

The position will work closely with the Architecture Lead and the relevant discipline Design and Delivery Leads to ensure all the cyber security requirements and activities are carefully planned, scheduled and coordinated with all key stakeholders and integrated into the overall RNA delivery framework.


This role is a fulltime, 2-year contract based in Melbourne’s CBD.



  • Assist with the planning, scheduling, development and coordination of the delivery of all cyber security implementation and testing activities for the Systems being delivered and modified as part of the Project.

  • Liaise with technical teams within the Engineering and Delivery functions regarding the set-up, execution and reporting requirements for specific cyber security test procedures and test cases being undertaken throughout the Project lifecycle.

  • Work closely with the wider Systems Integration & Test team to ensure all cyber security testing & verification activities are adequately documented and reported in the relevant engineering testing tools and applications used across the Project.

  • Manage cyber security risks across the Project lifecycle and document, assess and report on the security risk and compliance profiles for each each System.

  • Develop, manage delivery and review progress against plans to ensure they are on schedule and take effective remedial action as required.

  • Adhere to the relevant management plans and engineering frameworks that govern the Project delivery and reporting requirements.

  • Engage key stakeholders across the alliance teams and broader Project organisation ensuring that beneficial relationships are developed and maintained and contribute to an overall successful outcome for the Project.


 About You

  • Tertiary qualification in applicable Engineering or Technical field.

  • Experience in Systems Engineering.

  • Experience with applicable security standards and frameworks (IEC62443, NISTSP800, ASoCI, VPDSF, ISO27001)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience in rigorous security testing & verification methodologies

  • Knowledge and experience in the technologies and systems used with SCADA, Industrial Control, and Automation Systems

  • Relevant industry experience in Transport, Energy, Mining or similar.

  • Experience using engineering-based requirements management and testing tools (DOORS, RQM)
