 The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is a transformational public transport project that will bring more trains to your suburb and reduce travel times by running the busy Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines through a new tunnel. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne.

We’ve finished digging twin 9km tunnels, and construction is underway on 5 new stations and testing of the new High-Capacity Signalling system that will enable turn-up-and-go services.

Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join the MTP Team.


The Role

The Senior Project Manager will lead a team to deliver Metro’s portion of the Tunnels and Stations (T&S) contract and the type approvals process in support of Victoria’s ‘Big Build’ Infrastructure Program.


This is a fulltime, permanent role based in Melbourne’s CBD.



  • Facilitate activities which ensure the successful, safe and profitable delivery of concurrent work packages across both Public Private Partnership (PPP) project packages.

  • Ensures suitable resources, organisational support and commercial viability for MTM to safely deliver the program / packages and setting objectives in line with MTM strategies.

  • Identify, resolve and perform complex technical project management operations.

  • Identify and resolve process and operational issues with relevant stakeholders to ensure project Integration can be accomplished to agreed performance characteristics.

  • Develop, support and coach a leadership delivery team to achieve the goals within the safety, time, cost and quality parameters.

  • Shape the team across the program culture through demonstrating Metro’s values and holding other’s to account on living these values.

  • Accountable for the overall operational interface between Metro, the client and the PPP contractors to ensure that the management of the project is maintained as per requirements.

  • Support the Program Delivery Manager in the strategic support of PPP Contractors and Consultancy partners across the industry and key Government Agencies.

  • Accountable for ensuring that the program meets rail safety requirements, engineering approvals, protection of rail accreditation, disruption occupation management, and other agreed contestable works/responsibilities.  


About You

  • Tertiary qualification in project management, engineering or equivalent.

  • 10+ years’ experience in Engineering, Rail, Project Management and Construction.

  • Strong experience in leading and managing a large team, contractors, and consultants.

  • Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement across multi - disciplinary organisations.

  • Experience within Victoria Rail Projects, highly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Metro, its Operations and stakeholders, highly preferred.
