As the Level Crossing Removal Project continues to deliver a safer and more efficient train network, the Metro team involved in this large-scale project is expanding to respond to current and future works. Metro Trains Melbourne are currently seeking a suitably experienced Signalling Design Coordinator to support current & future Level Crossing Removal projects as part of the Western Program Alliance. This large-scale project will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services.


This opportunity intially is offered on a 12 month full time contract.


About the role:


Reporting to the Signalling Design Manager, this role will coordinate the signalling permanent works to ensure integration with the wider rail systems and other disciplines throughout the development design as well as delivery phases.


The Signalling Design Coordinator is responsible for developing and meeting Stakeholder requirements as outlined in the Project Considerations and Constraints document (PCC) and Project Requirements Specification (PRS), for driving positive outcomes throughout the design across safety, quality, environment, stakeholder interfaces, community interface and time/cost imperatives.


 Key Responsibilities:


  • Reporting on the progress and integration of signalling design elements on Development projects
  • Assist in scoping, tendering, and procurement of the Work Package Signalling Design sub-consultants in line with WPA and MTM procurement processes
  • Coordinating the signalling design with other signalling, overheads, track, substations and power inputs throughout the development of the design phases
  • Developing and meeting Stakeholder requirements as outlined in the Project Considerations and Constraints document (PCC) and Project Requirements Specification (PRS)
  • Ensuring a robust Safety in Design (SiD) process is implemented and documented throughout the design phase
  • Identifying Safety Assurance and RAMS deliverables in order to demonstrate the design meets the relevant targets
  • Providing and maintaining inputs for signalling design schedule throughout the design phase
  • Identifying, maintaining and developing the signalling design deliverables list throughout the design phases.
  • Ensuring interdisciplinary Check (IDC) processes to ensure relevant Discipline Leads are involved at a sufficient stage to have effective input
  • Leading the liaison with the Construction signalling, test and commissioning team, tester in charge and project discipline leads to align the design with construction requirements
  • Presenting technical concepts and solutions to the WPA reference group, stakeholders, Project Owner and AMT as required
  • Identifying and developing design risks and issues, for incorporation into the project risk register
  • Assist in the preparation and maintain all required documentation and records to facilitate and progress the project throughout the project life of the project cycle.
  • Participate in the safety in design process of design packages
  • Assist in the standard waiver approval process, writing and presenting
  • Consult with all stakeholders and interested parties to achieve practical and industrial harmony
  • Interface with colleagues on a common project with a "best for the business" approach to problem solving


Desired qualifications, skills and experience:


  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or equivalent
  • 2 – 3 years signalling design experience
  • Signalling testing experience desirable
  • Demonstrated engineering design experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Stakeholder management, ability to build and foster relationships
