The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is being delivered in three work packages, with a program level team (RPVP) assisting each package. The three work packages are: Rail Systems Alliance (RSA), Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA) and the Tunnels and Stations (T&S) Public Private Partnership.


Due to continued growth, are currently looking for a Signalling Design Review Engineer to join the team.


The Role


The Signalling Design Review Engineer undertakes work within Signalling engineering assurance services by undertaking design review & technical product approvals from the work submitted by the work packages.


The role assists in the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems and follows practices and methodologies to ensure the safety of employees, contractors and passengers and that the MTM operating system is not compromised throughout the project life cycle.


This is a fulltime, permanent role based in Melbourne’s CBD.





  • Providing signalling design assurance by carrying out design reviews/ subject matter expert reviews of new products in accordance to MTM standards and procedures. This also includes interface interdisciplinary designs and system integration.
  • Identification and escalation of critical issues in the early phase of the design to mitigate risks to the project completion dates.
  • Contribution in safety in design risk workshops and design meetings by ensuring proper engineering controls have been adopted by the project to mitigate the risks. 
  • Participation in stakeholder engagement workshops for design stage gates and provide feedback to the project during and or after the workshop.
  • Review of technical documentation (headway reports, application design documents, system design documents & standards)
  • Ensure the staging strategy for the project commissioning activities align with the designs.
  • Ensuring that design risks in relation to Testing & Commissioning are minimised.
  • Attending witness testing activities and providing assurance reports.
  • High level review of interdisciplinary designs to ensure there is no impact to the signalling, operations & maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Office of Chief Engineer for network wide consistency in the design being developed by the project.
  • Assisting the design review manager by providing SME reviews for Type Approvals & Standard waivers.
  • Assisting in assessing changes or amendments of project scope to MTM.
  • Assist in facilitating the efficient delivery of projects through the design review process and undertake the review of internal technical queries from within the MTM business
  • Ensure adherence to internal and alliance SOPs, external regulations and laws (including maintenance of project documentation)


About You



  • Tertiary qualification in engineering or equivalent 
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in Signalling Engineering with T&C.
  • Experience in Computer Based Interlocking. 
  • Experience with Signalling Design Review, and other similar services
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to participate in technical investigations, audits and risk assessments
  • Experience within Victoria Rail Projects, highly desirable
  • Experience in a railway system operational or design environment
