Your new role

 

We currently have two opportunities to join our Procurement and Supply Chain team. 

Reporting directly into the Head of Sourcing and Category Management, the Sourcing & Category Manager is responsible for leading the development, deployment and management of category strategies in order to deliver sustained value and competitive advantage to business units and Metro Trains Melbourne overall.


Key categories of spend to be influenced include:


•    Sourcing & Category Mgr Role 1: Rolling Stock and Operations.
•    Sourcing & Category Mgr Role 2: Construction Services, Rail Signalling Services, Engineering Services and Labour Hire Services 

 

While some experience in managing similar categories of spend is desirable it is not mandatory. 
 

Responsibilities

 

  • The role will contribute to the development of a culture that embraces the Company’s Category Management approach to deliver ongoing cost savings.
  • Responsible for developing and embedding procurement category management capability and setting standards for influencing results through changed behaviours and a high level of procurement service delivery
  • Working with the Finance & Commercial business partners to develop and maintain relationships with key business owners
  • Engage Procurement peers, business units and other stakeholders to forecast requirements 1-5 years out
  • Create work plans and schedules to be executed, accounting for business unit requirements, procurement processes, and the degree of workload intensity required
  • Develop and deliver sourcing strategies, ensuring they represent a consensus view of best value for Metro, and take into account trade-offs and implementation requirements
     

Organisational Responsibilities

 

  • Extensive experience in Procurement or Supply Chain Sourcing or Category Management roles. (Alternative relevant industry experience in other Functional areas would also be considered e.g. Finance , Commercial, Operations)
  • Proven ability to identify and deliver total cost reduction and efficiency opportunities
  • Deep understanding of procurement methodologies as applied within a sourcing & category management framework, including experience in:
    • Contract preparation, negotiation/execution, and contract management
    • Supplier development and supplier management.
    • Strategic sourcing
