Position Purpose Statement

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sourcing Specialist to join our Procurement and Supply Chain team. This is a newly formed role, expanding the team to support Metro’s Technology requirements.

 

In this role you will be responsible for the development, deployment, and management of sourcing strategies for the Technology category to deliver sustained value and competitive advantage to Metro Trains Melbourne. Reporting to the Sourcing and Category Manager, you will work in a dynamic and supportive team environment that values unique and diverse thinking and promotes career development to help you achieve your aspirations.

 

In this role you will also gain experience in the Category Management space, supporting the development of Category Strategies across Technology hardware, software, and professional services. There are also opportunities for advancement with defined Career pathways within the Procurement and Supply Chain function.

 

About the Role

 

As the Sourcing Specialist, you will:

 

  • Provide a central point of sourcing and category spend expertise and knowledge for users across Metro Trains
  • Lead the development of procurement strategies to manage goods/services consistent with overall company sourcing goals and strategies
  • Establish business requirements/specifications and identify supplier base with input from internal customers
  • Work with senior business leaders to develop sourcing and category strategies for key spend areas
  • Develop and lead sourcing events from strategy to contract execution
  • Constantly monitor the supplier market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts
  • Work with the Sourcing & Category Manager to perform detailed spend and market analysis to inform strategic category strategies and contract planning
  • Plan and agree procurement strategies with the business units ahead of contract expiry
  • Perform detailed spend data, market and business analysis and make recommendations on business process improvement

About You

 

 To be successful in this role you will have:

 

  • Demonstrated sourcing experience within Information Technology or similar category (Preferable)
  • Understanding of procurement methodologies as applied with sourcing and category management framework
  • Experience in contract preparation, negotiation, execution and management as well as supplier development/management
  • Experience in leading sourcing projects across cross-functional teams
  • A mindset to challenge the status quo and out of the box thinking
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
