About the position

 

As our Substation Electrician, you will undertake corrective, preventative maintenance, and renewals activities of electrical network assets, in accordance with relevant standards when working on the traction substations and substation network infrastructure. 

 

Additionally, you will be responsible to perform work associated with the construction, inspections, maintenance, renewal, or upgrade of substation electrical network assets, ensure the safety of all persons working near Electrical Network assets is maintained.

 

This is a full-time permanent night shift position based in Burnley. The shfit is rostered 4 days on, 4 days off, 11 hour reactive shifts.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Perform HV operations and switching and issue permits. 
  • Attend to electrical network faults, diagnose root cause, and implement fixes as quickly as possible. 
  • Accurately report all information regarding electrical network faults.  
  • Perform Track Force Protection Coordinator safe working duties.  
  • Ensure maintenance and safety of mobile plant and vehicles and carry out regular checks as per plant maintenance schedules. 
  • Ensure the safety of all persons working near Electrical Network assets is maintained. 
  • Accurately report on works completed daily including report time worked, work orders, progress information and any other issues.  
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the appropriate Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Regulations and Metro Trains policies and procedures. 

 

About you

 

  • Licensed Electrician (A+ grade) with minimum 2 years electrical network work experience 
  • DC exposure or HV exposure 
  • Qualified in Elevated Platform use and First Aid Certificate 
  • Sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail and maintenance industry, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Codes of Practice, regulations, safe working practices and High Voltage Rules 
  • Ability to undertake flexible shift work duties, including permanent night shift, rotating day/afternoon/nights/weekends, and work reasonable overtime as required and respond to after hour's emergencies. 
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical substation materials and equipment 
  • Good written and oral communication skills  

 

Desirable skills:

 

  • Experience in Substation Maintenance and/or Substation Construction. 
  • Experience in using project management methodologies. 
  • Certified in Level 3.1 Track Force Protection Coordinator. 
  • Certificate IV in ESI –Power Systems Substations.   
  • Qualified HV Operator (HV S1, I1, T1, O1). 
  • Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s license.
