Substations Crew Leader

The role:

The Substation Crew Leader is responsible for the direct supervision of train substation maintenance roster staffing, plant and equipment resources and to ensure the delivery of the electrical network asset management works.

This position rotates on a day and afternoon shift  7 On 3 Off & 7 On 4 off 0600-1430, 1400-2200

 

Main duties:

  • Lead, organise and direct reports performing maintenance and reactive electrical works with the support of Substation Team Leader
  • Ensure substation electricians  are trained, skilled and instructed to perform their duties, in a safe and effective way
  • Supervise, perform and inspect routine maintenance, renewals, reactive maintenance, system alterations and additions, new works  and other tasks
  • Produce and provide regular reports to the Substation Team Leader on all aspects of work in planned, in progress or completed stages
  • Coordinate labour, plant and material resources required to undertake maintenance and other works and ensure that plant and equipment is appropriate for the task
  • Support the achievement of Balance Scorecard objectives
  • Adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Accept shift work duties on a 24 hour, 7 day a week roster
  • Apply safe working rules and regulations to High Voltage situations
  • Apply WHS responsibilities, activities and actions to apprentices and trainees as an ongoing and integral component of all workshop activities
  • Appraise requirements and make recommendations in respect to work methods and techniques
  • Conduct regular audits on tools, equipment and safety gear to ensure compliance with standards
  • Coordinate substation maintenance response with Team Leader, for emergency repairs and establish and manage staff rosters for emergency response

Skills and experience:

  • Qualified HV Operator – O1
  • First Aid Certificate Level 2
  • Experience planning and coordinating electrical works and associated resourcing
  • Cert 3 Electrotechnology electrician or similar /
  • Significant electrical experience  in an urban railway system with an understanding of the interactions between the various disciplines groups
  • Cert 4 Frontline Management
  • TFPC 3.1
