We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Engineering and Assurance Division, working within the Asset Management team on major railway integration and infrastructure programs across the network.

This role will contribute to the integration and assurance of complex rail systems associated with major infrastructure projects and the ongoing performance of operational assets.

 

About the Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will support the integration of new and upgraded railway infrastructure into the operational network. Working across multiple asset classes and stakeholders, you will ensure that engineering requirements, asset information, configuration management and lifecycle considerations are appropriately defined and verified.

The role will involve engagement with major capital programs, including large multi-package projects that reshape network infrastructure and support future expansion of the Melbourne rail system.

You will work closely with engineering teams, maintenance divisions and project stakeholders to ensure that assets are introduced, managed and maintained in accordance with Metro’s engineering assurance and asset management frameworks.

 

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply systems engineering principles across multiple railway asset classes
  • Support the integration and verification of new infrastructure and asset builds
  • Contribute to asset requirements definition and verification
  • Maintain and support configuration management of railway assets
  • Participate in maintenance strategy development and lifecycle planning
  • Support asset performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to systems assurance and engineering governance processes
  • Support the development of long-term asset strategies and the 30-year asset plan
  • Work collaboratively with Rolling Stock, Infrastructure and Operational Control & Management Systems teams

About You

You are an engineer who enjoys working at the interface between infrastructure projects, operational systems and asset management.

You bring strong analytical capability and an interest in how complex infrastructure systems are integrated, managed and optimised across their lifecycle.

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic)
  • Experience in asset lifecycle or infrastructure engineering
  • Experience working in major infrastructure or engineering projects
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management and performance optimisation
  • Knowledge of technical standards, risk management and safety environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
  • Experience in rail or transport infrastructure
  • Familiarity with project planning tools (MS Project)
  • Experience using data and performance analysis tools such as Power BI
  • Exposure to asset information management or digital engineering environments
