The role:

The Project Engineer, Track Renewals is required to provide technical expertise across maintenance, renewals, upgrades and constructions works that fall under Track Renewals. They are required to apply their expertise to all works to ensure output is delivered safely and as efficiently as possible.  The successful applicant will support the delivery of works by assisting with planning, project management, work methodology and implementation of works on site to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely and complies with designs and Metro Trains’ standards. Ideally, you will have rail construction experience.

Main duties:

  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with the Technical Maintenance Plan and/or the Annual Works Plan
  • Monitor the quality of works undertaken and ensure corrective actions are undertaken where deficiencies are identified
  • Carry out investigations as required  and review and manage all investigation reports within their area of expertise
  • Identify and support Engineering in type approvals of all infrastructure assets
  • Perform risk assessments of processes, work practices, materials, suppliers and innovations  to ensure work is delivered as efficiently and safely as possible
  • Provide technical expertise in maintenance, renewals, upgrades and constructions works
  • Seek and implement innovative methods of improving production and safety
  • Ensure that the Technical Maintenance Plan and/or the Annual Works Plan is adhered to at all times
  • Prepare quality/safety/technical plans to enable works to be delivered
  • Ensure that the quality/safety/technical plans are followed through personal implementation as well as regular site and desktop auditing
  • Actively participate in visualisation meetings
  • Support the preparation of the team’s annual budget
  • Support the preparation of the detailed works planning including access, people, plant, scope, cost and timing that enables delivery of the Annual Works Plan

Education, skills and experience:

  • Technical tertiary qualification, Certificate IV in a designated rail related discipline or suitably equivalent qualification -highly desirable
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the rail or related industry – mandatory
  • Experience in planning and delivery of a program of works involving extensive train and plant movements – desirable
