Are you ready to lead a high-performing team and make a real impact on Melbourne’s metropolitan train network? We’re seeking a Technical Manager - X’Trapolis & Siemens to lead a team of up to 10 professionals to deliver Technical Maintenance Plan (TMP) compliance and achieve safety, reliability and availability score cards for 284 units operating within the Melbourne metropolitan train network.
This is a key leadership role where you’ll shape performance outcomes, support continuous improvement, and ensure franchise commitments are met.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and oversight to a team of up to 10 professionals consisting of engineers & technical officers.
- Provide technical oversight of everyday reliability and TMP compliance (including overhauls) to ensure MTM’s MR4 franchise requirements are met.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice regarding rolling stock design and maintenance to Management/ external stake holders.
- Work with external stakeholders to plan and lead short term and longer efficiencies to the TMP.
- Evaluate project proposals, cost estimates, scopes of work, specifications, project plans, risk assessments, supplier evaluation.
- Plan, organise, direct, monitor and control assigned projects to ensure their completion on time, within budget and conforming to applicable safety, reliability and quality standards, with all project risks mitigated to minimise their effect on train operations.
- Deliver/ support the delivery of assigned projects which includes scope, planning, costing, design, implementation, testing, commissioning and contract management including, lead and support the delivery of assigned projects from scope definition through to commissioning and manage budgets, schedules, resources, suppliers, and risks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven background in urban passenger rail environments coupled with strong project management skills – scope, budget, timelines, quality, and risk.
- 5+ years’ experience in people and business management, demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities and a solid understanding of asset management principles (ISO 55000).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills as well as experience dealing with industrial relations matters.
- Ability to influence functions outside of their direct control to achieve best for the business and network outcomes.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, including the ability to articulate clearly particular problems for both technical and business people.
