About the role 

Are you ready to play a key role in shaping the future of rail in Melbourne? We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Training Officer.

The role is responsible for the ongoing research, design, development, and delivery of Technical Training to new and existing Suburban Train Maintainers, Cleaners, Technicians, Fleet Operations Support Officers, Field Repairers, Maintenance Supervisors and Recovery Teams.

In this fulltime role, you will have the opportunity to travel across Melbourne—including our Train Maintenance Facilities located at Craigieburn, Epping, Newport, North Melbourne, Bayswater & Kananook to develop and deliver essential technical training.

 

Key role responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Develop training course material from manufacturer’s maintenance manuals, design documents and training material provided.
  • Conduct research and liaise with Engineering and Project Teams to acquire the necessary knowledge of train systems to provide effective and accurate training material.
  • Develop training courses which contain theoretical and practical training.
  • Support the development of maintenance methods and instructions.
  • Ensure training compliance with the Enterprise Agreement, National Training Packages, and all applicable legal requirements.
  • Structure the training courses to be effective, efficient, and which mitigate impacts on existing fleet maintenance requirements.
  • Delivery of training material to maintenance staff across the MTM train fleet, which align to training maps and competency profiles.
  • Provide reports and advice on the training delivery progress and effectiveness for the MTM leadership team.
  • Support change management activities and communications to maintenance staff in relation to train modifications.
  • Work at multiple locations as required.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • TAE40116 or TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Mandatory)
  • Certificate III in Electrical or Mechanical Trade (Mandatory)
  • Proven Experience in a Rolling Stock Maintenance Environment or equivalent field (ideal).
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills coupled with experience in developing training programs (ideal).
  • Self-driven, with skills and experience in identifying and rectifying issues (ideal).
  • Ability to independently manage multiple resources to achieve required outcomes (ideal).
  • Ability to utilise analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills (ideal).
