ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Way Maintainer, you will undertake corrective, preventative and reactive maintenance on track assets in line with Metro standards and rail safety requirements. Working as part of an experienced crew, you'll contribute to reliable rail operations by delivering safe, high‑quality work every shift.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertake maintenance, repair and installation work to ensure the timely completion of maintenance or renewal tasks  
  • Perform construction and installation of construction, maintenance, repair, renewal or upgrade of track assets, including rail and all track components, sleepers, ballast, formation, reserve management, drainage and geometry management 
  • Complete labouring tasks using hand tools and mechanical tools 
  • Conduct regular inspections, welding activities, track geometry checks or mobile/mechanised plant operation (as qualified)
  • Maintain safe working areas, follow SWMS, and uphold all OHS and rail safety obligations
    Accurately report daily work completed, work orders, time records and materials used

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure
  • White Card, Train Track Safety Awareness, and MTM Inductions
  • Track work experience with strong knowledge of rail safety requirements
  • HR Driver Licence and Track Vehicle Operator accreditation (TVO)
  • Licence and minimum 2 years’ experience working in a rail environment (i.e. rail, sleeper and ballast renewal)
  • Ability to perform labour‑intensive work in an outdoor, high‑risk environment
