About the role
The Contracts Manager - Infrastructure oversees the development, negotiation, and management of contracts in the Infrastructure division of 1000+ employees who work 24/7 to maintain our railway's assets. This includes more than 1,000 kilometres of track, 40,000 structures, signals, electrical systems and facilities to keep out network safe and reliable for our passengers.
You will ensure all contracts align with strategic and operational goals, while mitigating risks and maximising commercial benefits. This position plays a critical role in managing the contracts throughout their lifecycle including compliance, variations and negotiation of contract terms.
This is a permanent position, with no direct reports, based at Docklands/West Melbourne with hybrid working of 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end contract processes—including drafting, negotiation, compliance, variations, and closure—ensuring alignment with standards and legal requirements.
- Lead and support negotiations with vendors and contractors to secure favourable terms that meet strategic and financial objectives.
- Identify and mitigate contractual risks, maintain risk registers, and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and the Contract Management Framework.
- Act as the key liaison between internal teams and external parties, manage supplier relationships, and support training for Contract Delivery Managers.
- Provide regular reporting on contract status, risks, compliance, and savings; contribute to Quarterly Business Reviews and performance tracking.
- Drive improvements in contract management systems, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency, compliance, and commercial outcomes.
About you
- Significant experience in contract management or a similar position, ideally within complex commercial or infrastructure environments.
- Proven ability to negotiate, draft, and manage complex contracts and commercial relationships.
- Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, particularly in public transport and infrastructure sectors.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
