ABOUT THE ROLE 

 

As the Technical Lead, you will plan and undertake detailed structural inspections, lead technical investigations, and provide expert advice to maintenance and renewals teams. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring all structural works are safe, compliant, and delivered to Metro’s standards — while helping to improve processes, lift efficiency, and make best use of track access.

 

This role is permanent full-time role based at E-gate, there is a requirement to work night and weekends dependant on planned inspections and works.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Plan and undertake Detailed Structure Inspections in accordance with the Structures TMP and Structures Inspection Procedure (SIP).
  • Provide technical recommendations following inspections and investigations to support maintenance and renewals.
  • Review and provide advice on Visual Inspection outputs to ensure compliance with TMP and SIP.
  • Assess work practices, identify improvements, and develop strategies that enhance quality, safety and efficiency.
  • Maintain inspection schedules, ensure resources are available, and support accurate asset data entry.
  • Develop scopes of work, assist with procurement strategies, and support contractor management.
  • Support defect and fault management processes with the Maintenance Manager and inspectors.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

  •  Bachelor or Diploma of Engineering (Civil / Structural) or Certificate III in a rail-related discipline.
  • Strong experience in inspections, construction or maintenance.
  • Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Train Track Safety Awareness (TTSA).
  • TLIB3087A Examine timber structures.
  • TLIB3088A Examine steel structures.
  • TLIB3098A Examine concrete/masonry structures.
  • EWP Operator Licence.
