Position

Metro currently have a rare opportunity for a Power Modelling Specialist to join our Network Integration team. This role uses complex simulation models of the Traction Power System to identify future asset requirements, enabling Metro Trains to meet operational demands.   You will be joining a high-performing, award-winning team who support each other to achieve required outcomes.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include;

 

  • modelling the traction power system for the Melbourne Metropolitan Railway
  • Assessing power requirements of Greenfield timetables, new project proposals and introduction of new or enhanced Rolling Stock
  • Consult on Rolling Stock and fixed Infrastructure long term investment strategies
  • Undertake Traction Power system modelling and studies to support project development
  • Provide advice to asset planners on substation power requirements, resultant renewal options and new technology
  • Communicate findings from simulation modelling through verbal and written communication (concise report writing) with various stakeholders
  • Adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements and all policies and procedures
  • Attend site meetings as required

 

In order to be successful, it would be desirable for you to possess:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Membership of Engineers Australia is desirable
  • Substation Competent Person and Safeworking qualifications or able to readily obtain such qualification
  • Experience in maintenance management and maintenance planning
  • Experience in Electrical Network Asset Management
  • Experience and knowledge of Project Management and costing
  • Ability to evaluate and direct complex situations and tasks
  • In-depth expertise on electrical network concepts and principles of Asset Management
  • Application of Electrical Engineering principles to models of Traction Power System
  • Application of rolling stock electrical motor principles to ascertain Traction Power System demand
  • Ability to identify long-term deficiencies within the Traction Power System and propose sustainable solutions

 

Part time and flexible working arrangements would be considered.
